Mike, We use a self-contained CO2 laser etch system from Control Micro Systems in Florida. The system etches a 2D data matrix symbol and human readable text directly on the PCB. All in-process data we collect is stored against this serial number. I'm wondering how other shops accomplish this. Also: We're considering using an ink stamp instead. Any suggestions for an air-dry ink that will survive the rigors of assembly?
