Bread tins will work and the fan to enhance   cooling is also good. The suggestion of peanut oil may work, but remember it will smoke, so be sure to watch the smoke alarms and sprinklers.

If you have a fire ext near by be sure it is "dry power" not CO2 or water.

Hi Bev!

No I'm not pulling your leg. This was when I was out in California working for Comptronix (they got bought by Sanmina).

I remember that I was sceptical too, molten solder in a cardboard container, but it worked. The containers scorched a bit, but they held the solder. Of course they didn't fill them very full, less than half-way up of a 1-gallon container.

I've got almost 1500-lbs. I've got to empty from the pot, and I'm just trying to think of something that will make things go a little quicker. I plan to reuse most of the solder in our new machine that we're getting, along with some virgin bars. Our new wave has a 1800-lb. pot!

Steve,
Are you pulling our collective leg?!    Molten solder at 235C is darn close to good ole Fahrenheit 451 (good book).  Yeah, yeah, I know it is cooling and is closer to 190 C, but...     Or is this "can" treated with non-flammable fillers and maybe a inner metal coating?  Why not just use new paint cans?
Bev

Hi All!

In a couple of weeks, I'm going to have to empty the wave solder pot on our Treiber.

In the past, I remember round cardboard containers being used to put the solder in after ladling it from the pot. Does anybody know where I can get those?

Thanks!
