Richard, A few years back I worked for a small division Lockheed Martin. The company had been formed by the acquisition of three smaller companies. After the merger a single MRP system was put in place, and the three old data bases were merged on a "blanket" ECO. A cross index for all three P/N systems was generated and a new set of p/n generated, all of the bom conversions were done in software. I never found a bom that didn't have errors from this conversion. A couple of things that would have helped; -Retain the "old" P/N in the description field or whatever. They didn't and it doubled the work of cleaning up the bom's. -Bring the BOM's into the system one at a time. One Doc. control clerk could have kept a week ahead of our production schedule working part time. Humans are just better than software sometimes. -Move or re-vamp the stock room. We found a bunch of "orphaned" (not called on any BOM) materials this way. Hope you find this helpful, Dan --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8e To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-509-9700 ext.5315 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
