As board shops no longer, I hope, use "golden boards," they went to net list extraction from Gerber data. All the information, dumb or otherwise without ODB++, is there to program both flying probe testers (also used in preliminary ICT) so some measure of defect finding can be accomplished. I worked on a flying probe thing way back in - Jeez, I forgot now but even tried goint to electron beams instead of probes. Wonder whatever happened to that scheme? Also, did some of the first net list extraction from Gerber back in, Jeez - oh yes - 1987 at Ahmdal. Ain't I wonderful, or not. How time flies, eh?
