There is no variation in magnification aids requirements in J-STD-001 based upon class of product.  The requirement is defined in Paragraph 11.2.2.1 and Table 11-2 as a process requirement as indicated by the reference to Paragraph 1.4 and thus applies to all classes.

The closest you will come to variation in requirements by class might be the application of detail requirements (or not) as imposed by MIL-STD-2000. General requirements defined magnification aids differently than that those of the Detailed Process requirements of Paragraph 5.4.  If you are interested in the actual references, give me a buzz and I will forward the criteria. There was not a class distinction in the MIL STD since the requirements applied to product produced for the specific contract as expressed.  The Detailed Tasks were required to be called out in contract to be imposed. Otherwise the default was General requirements and what might be considered lesser requirements. DOD-STD-2000 had about the same concept but the criteria varied as developed in contract between Volume 4 (General Requirements) and Volume 1,2,3 (Detail Requirements).

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Best regards, Mel

Subject: [TN] Magnification

I have a question concerning the magnification power based on the width/diameter of the land. Has it ever been stated in an IPC document that magnification was based on the class of product? Does anyone know if any of the mil stds. ever stated this?

Thanks,
