Hi Suzy, Simply put, wouldn't the minimum spacing be dependent upon the tooling clearances required? The pin insertion tool will have clearances to consider for the anvil and press. The Pick and place machine will have clearances to take into consideration to avoid a collision with the pin if its inserted before pick and place operations. And the voltage spacing needed to avoid arcing if there are high voltages involved. The surface mount component type would also play into the decision. Is the Component on the top surface or primary side away from wave solder? Or on the bottom surface or secondary side of the board in the wave solder. This may also affect clearances due to wave solder bridging issues. How close other features like tooling rails, pins, test points etc. may affect the minimum distance the to pads would be able to maintain and not cause a manufacturing, test, or operational problem. - Bill Brooks -----Original Message----- From: Susy Webb [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Thursday, July 25, 2002 2:02 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [DC] spacing question Can someone tell me what the minimum spacing would be between a press fit connector pin and a surface mount component pad.
