Since most "dummy" SMT packages are now available with lead-free finishes, I
would assume that these same packages are also available in "live" versions
with lead-free finishes.
We find that most caps and resistors with lead-free finishes usually have a
100% Sn finish.
Most CSP and BGA packages now have Sn/Ag/Cu solder balls.
With leaded packages (QFP, TSOP, SOIC,...) each component manufacturer seems
to have their own choice of lead-free finish.

Again, this information is related to "dummy" packages, but since they are
made by the same manufacturers as "live" parts, I would expect the same
results.

Subject: [TN] lead free assembly

Hello Tech Net,
Do any of you have a feel for the availability of lead free components? I
use SMT caps, resistors, inductors and a couple of types of transistor and
diodes. I also need to know if anybody is doing lead free HASL. I have a
potential customer that has a requirement for lead free assemblies. They
also seem to have a problem with nickel (hence no EGNI), any one have an
idea what that is about?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts,
Dan
