Steve,
Before anything I like to clarify something, that by no means I was implying that people on this forum are bunch of
"bumbling idiots" as you put it. Therefore I like to apologize if my comments created such an impression(s).

As for my experience with via in pads, I used via in pads and vias close to pads on RF boards all because engineers desired
to have the shortest pads to GND. Yes we knew we going to have problems specially in assembly for exactly the same issues you have mentioned.
I decided to use vias with 10.5 Mils diameter and after discussions with people in manufacturing and in assembly, we had vias to be filled with conductive
epoxy. This worked for us and worked good we had to forgo ICT's and settle for functional test.

I like also to thank you for having a website to help us see the pics of problem boards.

At the end this is to the guy who is a master and has opinion on all issues, I consider myself very lucky to benefit from his technical
expertise but I would not arm myself with offensive language just to do talk to talk, I am sorry I wont lower myself to that level.

Shahed,

It's encouraging from your remarks, that there is a way to deal with the problems that occur with vias in pads. As you can see from the pictures on my web page, I did experience insufficient solder joint issues...as many others have. You may have the answer, but chose not to share.

But what is somewhat troublesome to me, is that you post a message that you say you are amused at all the communication about the issue...and my take on that statement is essentially saying that many of us on the list are a bunch of bumbling idiots. Maybe so, but the reason many of us are subscribed is to learn, not to be berated....

I'm happy that you have a solution, but unhappy that you chose to express to the list that you are amused at those of us that may not have the insight that you do in dealing with this problem...you just demonstrated  poor style if you ask me. Best thing would have not to said anything at all in my opinion.

I'll figure it out somehow, if you've come up with a solution, then I can...may just take me a little longer.

Be happy...

-Steve Gregory-

I used vias in pads on many RF boards and had NO problem
what so ever. It amuses me a lot, to see these much discussions are going on

about this "issue".
