I didn't realise that cored solder had a sell-by or best-before date. I found a reel of RA-flux cored solder that was at least 25 years old, a few months ago. Other than the fact that the metal was somewhat matte-looking, it looked OK, smelled OK and worked perfectly. I'm also using at home a 10-year old reel of 1.5% (less than normal) rosin-cored to DIN F-SW32 (halogen-free) and it works OK, within the limitations of its characteristics. I guess that if it tins some lightly tarnished copper with a soldering iron at 300°C (which both above did/do), then you can use it!
