The 2214 is the adhesive recommended by 3M for our application. Only problem was long lead time and minimum buys and we weren't sure it would work. It's good to get some positive feedback on the product. In a former life, I had some great results with a 3M material (#2214 structural adhesive) worked great as passed very rigid (MIL) shock and vibration testing. The 'tearing away' is exactly the problem our customer is concerned with based on their experience. This thing has to go in a bumper car which has significant impact shock for may hours a day. Unfortunately for us, the design is a modification of an existing product that doesn't see this environment. The wire hold downs are a good idea, but we can't use them is some areas of the board due to the design. I wondered if anyone was going to caution the group on this fact. I have seen RTV damage the printed circuit right through solder mask. The other thing I have observed is that it isn't that good at absorbing shock. If you hit it hard it can simply tear or worse bounce and actually return energy to the component. I think in the context originally described in this thread, used in conjunction with a wire hold down, it may be okay. > -----Original Message----- > From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]]On Behalf Of bbarr > Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2002 8:54 AM > To: [log in to unmask] > Subject: Re: [TN] Adhesive Recommendations? > > > Use caution if you buy a general purpose RTV at a hardware store.
