Hi Susy, This used to be SO common, especially with rack-n-panel board (boards to fit in an enclosure. This isn't all that tough, nor is it really that much more expensive (especially when you consider how many additional hours are spent trying to squeeze two "routing" layers out of a board. Just spec out the area, and thickness (plus the tolerance) you want to achieve per these card edges, and the vendor should not say a word to you. You probably won't even see a cost (it's covered in NRE and stuff). One thing, don't even try to put plating in these areas though!). Best of luck.
