The 5DX is hard to miss on the floor provided the floor hasn't collapsed under its 8000 pound weight. As has been posted by another fine gentleman, it is an x-ray laminography machine. It is used to initialize first pass BGA acceptance, primarily. It also comes into play as a vital tool after replacins BGA parts on PCB's. Often, especially in a new to BGA operation, ICT test folks tend to point a skewed eyeball at the BGA's because their solder joints are not readily/easily visible to "normal" inspection. X-ray, either laminographic or transmissive, is used mostly to detect shorting. However, opens may be determined as well in cases where/when solder is drained off down an adjacent dogbone via hole. Don't trip on the 5DX or let it fall on you, MoonMan --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8d To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search previous postings at: www.ipc.org > On-Line Resources & Databases > E-mail Archives Please visit IPC web site (http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm) for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-509-9700 ext.5315 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
