Kris, Although not quantitative, I was impressed with some SEM's (Scanning Electron Microscope) pictures taken of some gold plated Duroid boards that were not performing as expected. The pictures showed globular deposits of gold on the top surface. Where the globular deposits didn't touch, nickel was clearly showing.
