Hello Peter, more information is needed relative to your insufficient solder condition. Is it related to solder in the holes, i.e. PTH? What hole sizes are you using? What lead sizes exhibit the problem? Most likely if the solder is filling the hole and dropping out this may be one of the causes. From an equipment perspective, speed and temperature, must be investigated. What are the operating temperature of the wave? Measure the temperature of the wave, don't use the setting at which the wave temperature is set, these are two different numbers. There are many questions to be asked as to what this is happening, board questions, equipment questions and process questions. Flux is only one issue, but again, how old is it, what type is it, when was the last time it was measured for activity levels, etc. If you want to send me some of that information we can talk it over. First, what variables tend to cause this defect? Second, we have a base model wave solder with a foam fluxer. I am thinking of purchasing a spray fluxer for our machine to help reduce this defect. Would this greatly reduce defects from the wave machine? I am new engineer in the electronic manufacturing world so please take it easy on me if my questions are too broad and simple.
