Have you tried to download "Fred's Tip Cartridge Picker" from
http://www.metcal.com/tips/1.3.4.htm ?
It's a little Excel document (40kb compressed) and after you have choosed
the geometry of the components, you get the suggestion of the metcal tip
that should be used.
Approx. temperature range of the metcal tips should be:
500 series around 285 degrees celsius
600 series around 315 degrees celsius
700 and 1100 around 370 degrees celsius.
