Pete, "Pure" water has a pH closer to 5.6, because of CO2(g) + H2O(aq) -> CO2(aq) + H2O(aq) -> H2CO3(aq) This is an equilibrium reaction, but I can't take the time to figure out how to get the symbol for opposing arrows. But I doubt that this is enough of a change to trigger litmus paper, it (litmus paper) is not very sensitive. Some of the other more sensitive pH strips might show a change, but I specifically am looking for something that will change with liquid water and not high humidity as well. Thanks. I thought litmus paper would only get wet in water, and get dry again once exposure ended - it wouldn't change colour because water (pure H2O anyway) is pH-neutral. I like the dissolving/stain solution. R. G. TechNetters, Hann asked this same sort of question May 9th and I am not aware of any answers being posted. Certainly not with the same title (searched archives). Ever have clients dunk your hard work in water and then claim that you couldn't make good product? Do any of you know of any really small, moisture indicator strips that permanently changed color when they are dunked in liquid water, as opposed to just being exposed to high humidity for long periods of time? I know, I know a tall order. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
