Hi, Bob, IPC-A-610 shows how lacing card should be tied, but if you're in any doubt (and were a good boy scout), each knot should be a clove hitch with a reef knot tied over the top. For added security (not absolutely necessary), burn the loose ends short with a soldering iron and cover the knot with a suitable varnish. For tying things like IC's down, I recommend you have a double thickness of cord going round the component body, and make sure each turn is pulled up tight i.e. make sure the cord isn't at an angle that will slip and become loose, before doing the clove hitch.
