Charles, We solder stainless steel to drain wires for transformer shields. The flux we use is as follows; N-3 All Purpose Flux from LA-CO Industries, Inc./Markal Company 250 N. Washtenaw Chicago, IL 60612 The bottle says " for soft soldering of stainless steel, Chrome and copper. Do not use on aluminum or high temperature solder." Hope this helps, Phil Nutting Manufacturing Engineer Kaiser Systems, Inc. One of them anyway. We have an assembly with a stainless steel pin that has a flex soldered to the end. Currently the pin is nickel plated. Due to some problem which has not been explained to me very clearly, it has been proposed to eliminate the nickel plate. My problem is obvious. How do I solder a little flex to the end of this stainless steel pin? This is a high dollar, high reliability assembly. ( Navy pilot wants this to work ) Any suggestions or advice are welcome. It may be posssible to have the pin plated only on the area that gets soldered but I am looking at the worst case because I have been around long enough to know that somebody who does not have to deal with a problem can always make it harder on those who do.
