The list of materials at the beginning of IPC-TM-650 is quite accurate. With the exception of vacuum impregnation equipment and metal bonded diamond discs both high and low volume microsectioning requires equipment specifically for the preparation of metallographic samples. Many companies make tabletop grinding/polishing wheels. Consumables such as epoxy, paste, molds, and polishing powder can be purchased in low quantity. It may be wise take a short course on sample preparation. It will save you from much headache caused by poor sample preparation and interpretation.

Subject: [TN] MicrosectionningHello Technetters,IPC-TM-650 describes how to do microsectionning of PCB. Is this a procedurethat can be done In-hous with any regular tooling. We don't need microsectionning very often and it would be interesting if we can doit on site without too much trouble...Thanks for any input!JF
