Mark, Its pure smt placement before reflow (including some programming errors ). And its based on the number of components. But all the detected defects before reflow/curing wil be corrected before sending them through. So DPMO for post reflow is different and typical much lower. I have to admit we started above 500 DPMO using our own method. But lately 100 DPMO is standard after several improvements in the process. Don't know if it can be compared with your 50dpmo. I was just stating that the constant drive for a lower dpmo will bring succes to almost any method. It's nice to have an industry standard though. Missing the input from other members too. Is the 500 pre-reflow DPMO target you use just for SMT placements? We currently use a target of 50 DPMO for post-reflow, which includes solder joints and placements as opportunities. After some research we found out that everybody has its own way of measuring. So it is impossible to compare the targets. More important is to set up a method for your own productionenvironment. Determine the DPMO in your factory with your method. Then set a realistic target and keep on working to get there. Once you've reached the target you can set a new one. But if you like to hear a number ; for SMA prereflow we used 500 dpmo to start with.
