Ed Under no circumstances should you try to use a coating to "cover-up" such a problem - it would be the same as painting a rusty car. As Brian Ellis stated, it is worse than useless to do this - in fact you would be most likely to make the problem worse because a coating seals in as well as out. When you have identified the nature and origin of the corrosion - then yes, a coating will/should prevent this re-occurring Regards Graham Naisbitt [log in to unmask] Web: www.concoat.co.uk Concoat Ltd Alasan House, Albany Park CAMBERLEY GU16 7PH Tel: +44 (0) 1276 691100 Fax: +44 (0) 1276 691227 -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]]On Behalf Of Noble, Ed Sent: Monday, November 20, 2000 08:43 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [TN] PCB Corrosion Dean, Look into 'Conformal Coating' of the finished board assembly BEFORE shipping product. There are several types of conformal coating materials out there to choose from. Check out Humiseal (www.humiseal.com), a part of Chase Corporation. We have a number of products which are showing signs of corrosion on the copper tracks and planes. The products concerned are in non-air conditioned environment and varying humidity situations. Does anyone know of a suitable method to protect PCBs from external elements. I am keen to hear of any known solutions to this problem.
