Phil, My original question still remains unanswered. Will there be any problem if the leads (not component body) are resting on the board surface? As we do not want body of the resistor of 1/2W and above on the board, I just want to make sure that I am OK with the LEADS of the caps resting on the board. re, ken patel -----Original Message----- From: Phil Nutting [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Wednesday, September 13, 2000 5:56 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [TN] Axial Cap's lead resting on the board... Guy, Frequently we have large caps mounted on High Voltage Multiplier boards or Power Converter boards and they always seem to have flimsy leads. One of the best solutions has been to use RTV as a method of bonding and stabilizing the caps. An alternate method is using a Ty-Wrap around the cap through the board. Not a good idea. These type components are designed to have the component body resting on the board. Lead connections to the component are quite fragile. Guys, Do you see any problem in having axial PTH capacitor's leads lying on the board surface? I have a board with cut out in it and has two holes across the cut out. Bec' of the height restriction on the board, we want this axial cap's leads rest on the board leaving body hanging in the air across the thickness. I hope you are getting the picture here. Please let me know if you see any problem or I should be aware off. re, ken patel ############################################################## TechNet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8d ############################################################## To subscribe/unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the body: To subscribe: SUBSCRIBE TECHNET <your full name> To unsubscribe: SIGNOFF TECHNET ############################################################## Please visit IPC web site (http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm) for additional information.
