Hi Peter, i should not laugh, happened to me too, once in my early days, cleaning the pot, removed the flow diffusing grid , forgot the pump on full speed setting, threw the switch and managed to get half of pot out within a second. Subsequent peeling of tin foil from just about all under kept me in elated mood for hours. So, while in standard operation , even the laser (Kyocera, Sick, there's hundreds of em)diode beam (just about best option) will be tripping by leads. Also , don't forget the mementum, if the tsunami hits the beam, it's too late, going over by the time you cut the impeller. I'd say place a limiter on speed dial, would be easiest, and prevent the situation from onset. Because the grid is the "in place" limiting factor, which when removed upon maintenance will "cause" the spill, you may also mount a feeler (extended rod), poking up and engaging a microswitch > with speed dial in line. No feeler in position = switch off = dial off. That coupled with dial limiter calibrated for max standard flow, should make it fool proof even for maintenance .
