Rob: I agree, I think it's mostly appearance. On a properly grounded operator, I don't see any real differences in field readings at the work surface with coats or without, even under different conditions of humidity. Until recently, we've only used ESD coats/smocks in the clean room, but we've just implemented them in a new product line because one customer insisted. Pro's: They may enhance operator awareness of ESD, and customers perceive that you have a serious-looking shop. Con's: They cost money, they're somewhat inconvenient and occasionally uncomfortable, and you must waste time discussing how many snaps to close, and making sure that your people close them. In the new area, everyone must wear a coat, including visitors, and at least two snaps must be closed. -Joe > ---------- > From: Rob Williams[SMTP:[log in to unmask]] > Reply To: TechNet E-Mail Forum.;[log in to unmask] > Sent: Wednesday, June 14, 2000 2:05 PM > To: [log in to unmask] > Subject: [TN] ESD Lab coats > > All these e-mails say whether or not a company uses the ESD smocks.
