Hi Steve I am going to assume that you are using IPC-6012 to a certain class to order your boards. One very specific action that I would advise you to do isask to see the microsections from various past lots of boards produced. Recently I have been made aware of "less testing than the specs require" while still issuing a CofC for 6012 compliance. The sampling plans in the document are in there to give you the minimum testing needed for each class of product. This past month has been frustrating with comments like "oh, we run one double sided board through our process each week and if that tests ok, we know all the boards run are ok". Of course the multilayers that were certified by this testing program had inner layer separation - which would have been detected if appropriate microsections were examined. Don't be wowed by equip and test plans. Ask to see the actual test samples. I apologize for being a little cynical for this early morning.
