We've had great success using floor pads to reduce noise on through hole insertion machines, but have never tried it with a washer.  Why not???  Dave Fish

Steve, Sound is simply a series of air presure variations. Adding "white noise" (flat broadband sound, equal amounts at every frequency) will "mask" undesireable noise, but does nothing to attenuate it. There are new techniques that use a microphone to detect the sound, invert it and re-send it into the air via loudspeaker, but this sort of equipment will cost more than the machine you'r trying to quiet down. My suggestion is to replace the sound foam with a high quality absorptive material such as made by Sonex, as well as a pad on the floor under the machine. You'd do well to have a service come in with an audio spectrum analyzer to "customize" the sound materials to specific problem areas in the machine. Regards,Ed Popielarski
