Dear colleague, As many of you know, halogen-free materials are gaining more attention, as some companies in Europe and Japan are on the prowl for these materials. Will halogen-free materials follow the same path as their lead-free brethren, or will this issue fizzle into thin air before long? Will the OEM sacrifice cost and reliability for a moving target, or are there ways of making enhancements to the recycling processes to prevent or significantly reduce halogen emissions? In order to answer these questions, the Halogen-Free Task Group, led by Ceferino Gonzalez, E.I. du Pont de Nemours, will hold a kickoff meeting at IPC Printed Circuits Expo, Monday, April 3, 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This group will hold discussions on halogen-, antimony- and red phosphorus-free materials, with the goal of presenting a white paper later in the year. The focus of this paper will be an in depth viewpoint of these materials, if there is a need for such materials and if so, what a company needs to know to supply them. All are encouraged to attend and address their concerns on this issue. For more information on Expo or to register on-line, visit: www.ipcprintedcircuitsexpo.org Thank you for your attention to this matter.
