Correct me if I'm wrong but the NFPA , consider a Water reactive
material one that will initiate combustion when mixed with water such as
Sodium, Is it listed in the CFPA specifically by name or Cas number?
Applying water to Conc. H2SO4 will result in the evolution of vast
amounts of heat , but the material itself will not ignite under any
conditions.
Once you have diluted the acid to 20% the heat generated from
further dilution is negligible.

Subject: [TN] Sulfuric Acid - Maximum allowed by Fire Code.
Date: Tuesday, November 30, 1999 7:37PM

Hello Technetters,

Does anyone know the maximum amount of concentrated sulfuric

acid (96%) allowed on the permises (single site) by the
California Fire Code? What are the exemptions, if any?

How about dilute (15%-20%) sulfuric acid. Is it still
considered to be
"water reactive" and subject to the same regulations?

Has anyone had a problem with compliance of enforcement of
these regulations?
I would appreciate knowing how you handled it?

Please advise. Thank You.

Dan Brandler.
