The Calendar seems to say BC (That's Before Christ) and AD (After Death of
Christ)... What happened to the 30 something years during Christ?

You must be an "engineer", all logic and no feelings. Of course, the first
millenium started on the first of January in the year 1, so the 3rd (notice
the "three" in that) millenium starts on the first of January in the year
2001. But who at the start of the first millenium knew that it was a new
millenium, did they roll from the year -1 to the year 0 to the year 1? Did
they even know it was "January" again?
