Gee, Michael, 1969 may sound like the Stone Age, but you will be
surprised how quickly you will find yourself saying "Wait a minute. We
did some good stuff 30 years ago, back in the 1990's"
Wally Bader did the CLASSIC work on dissolution of metals in solder.
Yes, there have been subsequent studies, but it is tough to improve upon
what Wally did. In fact, Wally himself published dissolution rates
versus temperature for 232(deg)C to 482(deg)C, along with other data in a
1979 paper called simply "Soldering to Palladium." It is part of the
proceedings of a Solder Forum held in San Diego by Lead Industries Assoc.
and Tin Reserach Institute, Inc. The program also featured Dennis
Bernier on Soldering Fluxes, Jim Raby on Specifications, Frank Zado and
other solder technologists on pertinent subjects. A good time was had by
all.
