Hi Tracy -

Regarding your basic question of changing board suppliers - go with extreme
caution. I've been thru several of these things over the years which
resulted in having to do considerable "retuning" of the "less expensive
boards". All kinds of crazy stuff can crawl out and bite you if you're not
careful: changes in solder mask chemistry; changes in solder mask color;
variances in layer to layer spacing (internally); changes in OSP coating
material; different solder coat/tin lead plate characteristics; thru hole
sizes in tolerance, but a few thousandths different resulting in solder flow
thru variations; etc. You need to be sure that you do a large enough
"initial production run" with the proposed suppliers boards to verify you
are free of any problems before a full committment is made.

Regarding any vendors financial well being, or similar: TechNet just isn't
the place for that type discussion.

Regards and good luck

Kelly

Subject: [TN] Circuit Boards

Hello TechNetters,

Our company, a high volume automotive manufacturer, is thinking about
changing board suppliers, due to some possible cost savings. Does anyone
have any recommendations I can pass along, before someone in accouting
starts forcing us to buy someone else's nightmare and negates a little thing
called quality and manufacturability. I've heard CircuitWise is having some
financial problems, any truth to that?
