I have found running the pot at the lowest temp. possible 240degC helps a great deal
with dross reduction. We also lower the solder temp to just below melting point at
night for the same reason. I don't use oil or wax, they make a hell of a mess and end
up increasing the amount of time you spend cleaning/maintaining the pot. I use the
Electrovert Kleenox powder to separate out the solder from the dross when cleaning,
which minimises the wastage. This is the easy/cheap option for those of us that cannot
afford the nitrogen!
Our solder supplier does give us credit on the solder they can extract from the dross
we remove anyway - this is definitely worth pursuing with your supplier...
