Hi C&L
1
As you know punch produces clean in and not so clean outer rim .
Therefore in theory ; without asking much from the pad on the outer rim you
could plate nice barrel from in rim (circuit) side .
However ; you'd be shifting the costs dramatically = reeealy not practical .
The SS should be sufficient (apart from efficient) if you keep it in mind on
design stage :
most transformers hold fine on SS P/S's .
2
Yes it is VERY common (don't like it neither) , notoriously most of the
P/S's used in C.2 are SS's .
Sorry to say so, your custo knows his stuff & budget (be cautious with weak
reco) .

Somebud's else's cupa , Mr. Concoat or ?

Subject: [TN] Assembly and PCB fab questions

Hello Technet

1- We currently produce a PCB assembly on single sided CEM1, punched. Is
it possible or has anyone had experience plating holes on this material on a
punched PCB? Our thought is that the plating would make the assembly more
robust. There is no interest in double sided or even electrical parameters,
simply a more robust PCB.

2- This same assembly is manufactured to IPC610 Class 2. Is it common to
mfg single sided PCB assemblies to Class 2? It was a customer requirement
and we are considering a recommendation to go to a dbl sided PCB if it must
be Class 2

3- We are using an acrylic conformal coating applied with a dipping process.
Would the thickness information in IPC610 be treated as a minimum or sinply
a guideline?

Thanks in advance.
