MIL-STD 1686 is planned to be canceled now that the ESD Association has
released their program standard. The new standard is ANSI/ESD S20.20-1999
and can be obtained from the

Currently J-STD-001 refers to EIA-625 for ESD handling. I believe that the
J-STD-001C will reference the new ANSI/ESD S20.20-1999 standard.

Jack: correct me if I am wrong.

How do you visually inspect the product for compliance to ESD program
requirements?
You set up an ESD control program and audit it's effectivness. You monitor
Electrical
test failures for ESD related causes and chart the trends. You monitor the
results to insure that your program is effective, both for ESD protection
and program cost.

Subject: [TN] Subj: IPC-Std for ESD

Good Morning TechNet!

Question: What is the IPC Standard for ESD?

I am aware of IPC-CD-19, which is the training CD for ESD from IPC. Is ESD
a part of the Acceptance specifications listed on the IPC Spec Tree. Those
listed at the top of the heap are IPC-A-610B, IPC-DRM-40, and IPC-DRM-SMT.
If these are the final acceptance specs, shouldn't there be some sort of
information on ESD handling?

Mil-STD-1686C, . . . . is this still the document to be quoted? . . . . has
or is IPC going to generate a spec for ESD Control/handling/???

Jack Crawford, are you out there in cyber land. You can probably quote it
from memory.

Thanks
Ron Hollandsworth
