Well, the really cheap stuff would probably be from a second tier
reclaimer.  I'd be real wary of it.  I suppose what you're talking about
is the regular grade from the usual brand name suspects as opposed to
the "low dross" type.  I wonder how much of the savings you would wind
up scraping off the top of the pot?  Point out how much they are saving
by buying an experienced machine and bite the bullet.  BTW, I've heard
that you can damage the heat elements by hot spotting them if bar solder
is used to charge a dry pot and that pellets or shavings are
recommended.  Also, if I read you correctly, the pot still has about 700
pounds of solder in it.  I would get a recent analysis from the previous
owner or do it yourself to avoid the possibility of contaminating all
that nice new solder.  There was a thread here about mixing solder
brands here recently, you could search for it.  As far as topping off a
pot with an equivalent grade and type of solder, I don't have a problem
with it.
