UL 796 section 34 says we (fabricators) must mark the board with the
manufacturer's name, trademark or authorized initials or symbols...followed
by a catalog, type, or code number to indicate that it has been tested for
bond strength and where applicable, flammability, if there is sufficient
space, which is defined as 0.1 inch high by sufficient length to accommodate
the marking.

If there is only a 0.1 by 0.1 inch space we can use the Recognized
Component (backwards-R U) symbol on the board, and the full marking on the
smallest unit shipping container or on the panel frame. If there isn't even
that much space, we just have to mark the container or frame. (We have built
boards that were smaller than 0.25 by 0.25 inches!)

For legibility, a little larger might be better, but 0.125 by 0.5 inches
should be an adequate relief. We put the code number above our logo, and so
like to have a taller, narrower window. If a date code is desired, obviously
more space is needed.
