Hmm, thanksgiving tenacity: tried to forget, no chance with you J-F .

So : doubt you find any "mod book bible" ; it's all too case specific .

Otherwise, scanning clamping diode quick fixes in my vibrated past (railway
cards):

You're quite correct J-F, the piggyback soldering is not as good as :
let the res. going through pads with long (full) legs, drop the diode legs
through drilled holes,
press bend in res. direction, loop back diode wire 180 degrees around the
res. wire (= on pad) which you bend back to hook the diode wire loops .
Trim, cover possible excessive wire with solder resist and wave .

That way you get flat secure joint anchored on pad .

This is a message that I sent on thanksgiving day.  I just wanted to make
sure
it was not forgoten!

Hi!

We have an important modification on a board and some advice would be
appreciated.

Nature of the modification:

A diode (do-41 casing) as to be added to a circuit in parallel to a resistor
(1/2 W).
Is there any specs on how such a modification should be done?

I was thinking of drilling holes for the diode as it had a place near the
resistor.
Then I would bound the diode so it stays in place and connect the resistor
and the
diode with some wiring on the solder side.  The board as no power planes nor
ground
planes.  Of course, the electrical clearance would be respected.

Is there any other way that would be generaly prefered in the industry?
Such as
soldering the diode on top of the resistor (witch I doubt) or anything else.
And is
there an IPC book on such kind of modification?
