Hi SIR Brian,

<<<<<...or hygroscopic residues
from any of a number of processes, such as those using PEGs, derivatives
or similar which actually are ab/adsorbed into the laminate surface by
van der Waals' forces. >>>>

Q: anyone who has used SIR for disguising unwanted contaminations on gold thickfilm on alumina? We have observed glass particles by means of FTIR and FM, followed by AUGER, resulting in a lot of headscratching; what is this 1-3um organic layer? We are not willing to spend zillions of cents on further expensive analysis before we feel it's meaningful; sitting with 2pounds of spectras doesn't necessarily solve the wire bond problem. We could burnish, plasma clean and try other thickfilms etc, but still without knowing exactly what we are doing. Knowledge is a good thing, tried to make Coopers beer myself without enough reading instructions, resulted in a number of exploded bottles in my sauna, still finding microscopic glass spears in the wood. In this case my sensitive behind is a useful analysis instrument; some drops of blood and I know exactly what to do, find the tweezers and remove glass.

But 25 wt% superficial glasses and unknown organic compounds on the very top of the gold thickfilm was too hard for my rump to find, noise level too high. So, Brian, back to question: have you ever used SIR on so called 'hybrids' (hate the stupid word)?
