Miguel,
You are correct. The harsher fluxes will cause problems if used on stranded
wires. How soon and how bad may not be accurately measurable.

I have seen standed wires which were tinned using a flux that was intended to be
used only on solid component leads. After a couple of months, the visible
portion of the leads showed a darkening effect. Upon peeling back the
insulation, greenish corrosion was visible on the surface of the wires.

How long it might take to eat through the wires was not determined. If you are
making something to last a long time, I wouldn't want that type of flux used.

 Subject: [TN] Soldering Stranded Wires

Hi,
Is there a documented reference for recommended flux type for soldering
stranded wires?
Currently, we only use RMA or No-clean types. My understanding regarding
water soluble fluxes is that they are highly corrosive and that it's
difficult (if not impossible through a regular cleaning process) to
remove the flux from underneath the insulation. I'm trying to
substantiate this claim. Any help will be appreciated.
