Ingemar: Indium is used for gaskets and similar becuase it is very soft and deforms
easily, retains softness over a wide range of temps (down to cyrogenic). Tin would
probably be too hard, but some people do use tin/indium alloys to cut costs a bit. also
being slightly harder makes big washers / floppy shapes easier to handle. You can also use
silver based elastomers from specialist suppliers.
ps How's the bubbling.

Subject: [TN] Ku-band waveguide gasket
> Hi, an unusual question, but I see many radar guys are reading also in TechNet. So, what
sealing gaskets do you use for flange-to-flange sealing, electrically as well as gas
tightening? We tried Indium, works well, but the price is immense. If the waveguide is
ordinary Al with Nickel+Chromate, then what about Tin gaskets? Atmosphere around is dry
and you have that Nickel barrier. Copper seems to be too hard. Any good idea?
