Susquehanna Region Chapter of the IPC Designers Council Meeting Minutes

A meeting was held Sept. 22, 1999 to plan activities for the coming season.
In attendance were:

                Sally Meyers, President
                Mark Radely, Vice-President
                Scott Hust, SRC Member
                Ron Williams, SRC Member
                Bill Dieffenbacher, Secretary

This fall we hope to have two and possibly 3 meetings. The ideas which were
tossed on the table were:

Tour of a PWB Fabrication Shop. This was a real popular
meeting when we did it a couple of years ago at HADCO. Many people could
not make that meeting and have encouraged us to have another tour. (Meeting
is planned for Wednesday, November 3, 1999 6:30 - 8:30 pm)

Tour of an Assembly house. There are a number of contract
manufacturers and captive OEM assembly shops in the area. Hidden Valley,
Dovatron, Ametek, and Lockheed Martin were names of companies who may be
willing to provide an evening tour.

Round Table discussion on any topic of interest to the pwb
designers. We are looking for ideas and people who would be willing to lead
a discussion.

After the new year we hope to devote some meetings to demonstrations of pwb
design software. A few ideas were:

Demos of Mentor and Cadence Design tools.

                Demos of Design Rule Checkers.

Roundtable discussion on Autorouting Stratagies or How can
we squeeze more performance out of the AutoRouter?

Demo and discussion of component Geometry creation. A local
design company, Utilitek, might be able to provide some insight in this and
other aspects of design tools.

Tour of SUNY Binghamton Electronics Laboratories.

We have a number of members who have become IPC Certified Designers. They
are willing to discuss what it took to study for and take the exam. They
are a local resource that are willing to give their time to help others
prepare for the exam.

The SRC Officers are always looking for interesting topics, meetings, tours,
or even social time. Please feel free to contact any of the officers if you
have any comments or ideas. We also look forward to organizational meetings
when we can network and discuss topics of interest. Everyone is encouraged
to take as active a role in SRC activities as they can. We all benefit when
we have more ideas bouncing around the table.

Respectfully submitted,

Bill Dieffenbacher, SRC Secretary
