I was waiting for a techspert in this area to answer. Here is my 1/2c general knowledge
type answer till they come back from their coffee break:
Cast anodes are generally cheaper to make than worked anodes. The grain structure in the
metal tends to be less uniform: the outside cools quicker than the inside resulting in
smaller grain structure, the inside cooling more slowly has a coarser stucture. This
results in differential erosion in use.
Working the metal by rolling or extruding results in a more idealised, uniform structure
and better performance characteristics, but represents a greater processing time to make,
therefore cost.
Some cast anodes suppliers have developed rapid chilling and so on to get closer towards a
worked structure, enabling them to say "our special cast anode process produces a result
as good as worked anode."
There is sometimes at least a degree of truth so you will need to verify this for yourself
on a case basis.
Other characteristics such as purity etc are not necessarily effected by any of this.
