It really blows me away when, in the many places I've worked, we have/had
design reviews for DFM, there was never a PCB fab representative in the
meetings. There were plenty of other people from all other areas, but
concurrent engineering was not practiced and DFM was? Can't be done. There
can be no concurrence without all major players involved. Of course, there
are a few board suppliers either incapable of involvement/communication or
are just willing to sit back and take what comes. Many, however, welcome the
opportunity but are never asked. I don't understand how boards can be
designed and assembled with such great thought, without including some
extensive knowledge about how they are built.
