Not really. New users might log on in the middle of a thread. People who are
already quick on the delete key would not have the original post or may have
missed the beginning of a good thread, which can from time to time can take
days to develop.

This is from people who simply reply without selective editing of the quoted
text, which I venture to say is the cause of your frustrations. I believe
the best approach to solving this problem is to crop out redundant and
unnecessary text when we make a reply, especially that suffix IPC adds to
everything. It only takes a few seconds, and is proper netiquette.
