   Some stencil printers ( MPM is one of then ) can use pad as fiducial, if
your aplication is not critical ( no fine pitch devices ) you can use this
option without any problem. I worked with pad as fiducial for years with no
problem of misregistration, you have only to choose pads large enough to
avoid solder acumulation in stencil aperture walls that can compromisse
aligment.
