just a guess, some products (vibration requirements) are required that all
the connectors being soldered on.  second guess, someone brought the wrong
finish of the connector (or wrong type).  third guess, someone did a
prototype using press fit ...subsequent development forgot to change it to
"solder on" on the product level...(my guess just my guess...If any of the
other parties have similar experiences, it is turely by coincidence...)
