Allen,
Is this a component which was designed as a through hole and afterwards went through
lead forming for smt?
I ask you because you said that the leads are round.
If so, your main problem should be coplanarity of the leads and solderability, I think.
I would look only for solder height - reaching the 1/2 of the lead diameter on all
leads should be fine.
If there is no bending, the solder joint should have a nice meniscus and not touch the
component body.
