I see the solder balls as a process issue that should be fixed and investigated
first of all.  Putting a brush inline is putting a band aid on the problem and
not healing.  We use alpha products as well.  Solderballs are generally process
functions.  Flux manufacturers...... first thing they'll tell you is "turn up
your preheats"  I personally haven't found that to be the solution to the root
cause either.  E-mail me off line for a more detailed look at your situation.
