Jim,

We have 4 pieces of one manufacturers equipment in-house and one of them is
a refurbished unit. In fact it never left the manufacturers plant. It was
used in-house for SPC testing and then made available for sale.

I am not a fan of refurbished equipment UNLESS you know exactly the history
of the machine and how well it was kept up with PM's. The 'past life' can
really come back to haunt you if your not careful. The ole saying of 'buyer
beware' can have some REAL meaning in these types of situations.

How did our machine work out you ask? Well, I am still not a fan of
refurbished equipment. We assumed (oh how assuming hurts!) certain things
since the machine never left the manufacturer, and we got surprised. Not
badly, just disappointing.

Just do some homework. How much down time can you afford for the discount
you get? How many new parts can you afford for the discount you get? Do you
have REALLY talented technicians in-house who can tackle the big stuff? Do
they have the time to deal with major issues?

Good luck with your decision.

Richard Hamilton
