Hi Grant,
Unless your application is for a severe use condition, putting 1206 caps on
0805 pads does not affect solder joint reliability; in fact, since the
fillets do not pull the caps down you might have a greater solder joint
height and get better reliability. Also, without solder fillets you are much
less likely to get cracked caps.
